Module 01:

An Overview

Dr Bland goes over the basics of gut health in order to set the stage for the healing work that’s coming. It’s important to know the connection the gut has with the body and the interconnected nature of the microbiome with all other organ systems. It’s important to know the “why” so you stay engaged in the healing work.

Module 02:​

Assessing Your Gut

How do we figure out what’s wrong with us? What tests can we take? How can we know what species are out of proportion and make a plan to bring things into balance? The one size fits all paradigm is over. Let’s get specific about this and help you get to your answer faster. Getting the right answers gets you better results faster.

Module 03:

Things to Avoid

From sugars, to additives, antibiotics, and pesticides, there are so many things that are harmful to our microbiome. Rule #1 is to do no harm. Lets learn what things to avoid so we can begin the healing journey and keep making progress. Taking steps backwards is exhausting. Let’s win at this.

Module 04:

Food & Friends

Dr Bland next dives into the importance of certain foods and types of fiber. These help feed the beneficial bacteria in our guts and generate energy, hormones, cofactors, and so much more. The way we eat will help influence the right balance in our microbiome and they, in turn, create the right climate for digestion and healing in our bodies. It’s a bioecological model where we need to learn how to “feed our friends.”

Module 05:

Fermented Foods

We’ve been eating fermented products for millions of years before refrigeration was invented. It helped preserve foods and gave us healthy doses of good bacteria to work with. These bacteria have co-evolved with us and have taken on certain functions that occur in our bodies. Dr Bland discusses the best practices in fermentation and how we should think about incorporating ferments in our daily lives.

Module 06:

Supplements

There’s too much cheap talk out there and we have no idea who to trust. Dr Bland helps us understand how to pick supplements and what to look for in your supplements. More importantly, he sets the frame for how we should look at supplements in general as part of an overall lifestyle strategy which is anchored in healthy eating. Pills alone won’t cut it.

The Mental Health Connection

The gut brain connection is now being studied in labs around the world. We now know that anxiety, depression, dementia, sleep issues, and so much more are connected to microbial health in our guts. Managing Stress

Stress management is no longer optional. It’s an absolute necessity in the modern world and we cannot heal our guts, bodies, or anything for that matter without addressing a healthy outlook. This comes through mindfulness practices which can really help in all aspects of our lives. It means learning how to chill and practicing it daily so our bodies can truly rest and digest.

Sleep Strategies

Much like stress management, we can’t get healthy without good sleep. Now there’s new science connecting certain strains of bacteria in our guts with better sleep. Let’s explore the central role of sleep and how to get better at it with a gut-first approach. Healthy sleep leads to a healthy gut and vice-versa. Dr Bland teaches a “dual directional” approach to get there faster.
